Welcome back to school

Here you are again, at IES San José de La Rinconada with lots of new things to learn, practise and enjoy. I hope so. As most of you know, I'll not be working at your school this year and I want to give thanks to all the people who have visited this blog as a platform to practise English in different ways but also to get information about any news affecting the bilingual programme at school.
As I've spent eleven years of my life in that place, there is a lot to remember and I'll keep with me forever all the good memories especially those lived with you students in our Comenius project 2013- 2015.

Regards and all the best from my new workplace : IES Macarena in Sevilla. I've met an important person here who loves books and reading. Here you are some pictures of the man. If you want to meet him...

Comenius week in Finland

Do you recognise some of the people in the photo? You could try the game Wally's searching to identify the members of our Spanish team. Paula, Tamara and Antonio together with the teachers  Manuel and Juan enjoyed the Finnish experience last week.

As you can see the weather was good and they could see the sun for a long period of time. Did you know that in Finland at this time of the year there is no sunset? Ask your friends about it.

This is the picture of the group by the school  in Raahe.

Here you are a selection of pictures of this fabulous Comenius week where again Sciences and Arts improved their links.

The Comenius experience is almost over but all the participants in the project have a final questionnarie to fill in and send me by Friday 22nd.

Here you are the Wallpaper of the project in Raahe and a selection of photos sent by the French team.

Short Stories, critical essays: Poe's Murders in the Rue Morgue

One of the most relevant figures of the Dark Romanticism is the American writer Edgar Allan Poe  (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849). He was an author, poet, editor and literary critic, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story and is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre. He is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction.
Poe and his works influenced literature in the United States and around the world, as well as in specialized fields, such as cosmology and cryptography. Poe and his work appear throughout popular culture in literature, music, films, and television.

Here you are a dramatization of the first story you are reading as part of your curriculum in the English lessons : The Masque of the Red DeathThanks to the people who made it public to us.

Follow the link to read an critical article about his figure and  learn more about the romantic movement.

To the theatre: Frankenstein in Sevilla

Last 4th March a group of students of 1º Bachillerato and 4º ESO with the teachers Eva Gómez, Jesús Doña and Carmen Castro went to Sevilla to attend the performance of the play: Mary Shelley's Frankenstein by the company Recursos Educativos in Teatro Quintero.

We learnt about the plot and did some worksheets before the performance in class. After a walk around the city centre (some of us went up to Las Setas to have a better view of the city) we enjoyed the performance.
